Dear Client and Friend:
I have been receiving copies of articles
encouraging us to write in protest of what is being call an “increase’ in
property taxes in the State of Michigan.
In order for you to be informed, you need to
understand the State is asking you to pay your County portion of your property
taxes early; 1/3 early this year, 1/3 early next year, and 1/3 early the
following year. So, this is not actually an increase in taxes.
However, we will be forced to pay our taxes
early if the change is made. This is wonderful for the cash flow of the State,
but not so good for most taxpayers.
So, I agree that we should object by writing to
our representatives at the State level. But we must show we know what we are
talking about or we may not be heard. This proposal actually moves a future
payment into the present by 1/3 over 3 years.
If our protest says “increase” and there is no
increase, we may be ignored. So word your written protests accurately and refer
to Senate Bill 1111. The vote has been delayed, so write within the next two
weeks before they vote again.
If you need more information, I would be glad
to discuss it further and assist in any way I can.
Sincerely and going the extra mile,
